Narrative Construction examines what happens after a reader has identified the individual evidence in a spread. This module focuses on how readers connect separate observations into a larger interpretation without inventing a story that the cards don't actually support. Students will look at sequencing, relationships between cards, repeated visual information, contradictions, missing evidence, and the difference between a pattern that emerges from the spread and a narrative imposed on it by the reader.

The central problem is simple: human beings are extremely good at making stories. That ability is useful in tarot, but it's also one of the easiest ways to corrupt an interpretation. Once a reader thinks they know what's happening, every later card can start getting recruited into that theory. Ambiguous details become confirmation. Contradictory cards get explained away. Client feedback can quietly rewrite the original interpretation until the final story bears very little resemblance to what the reader actually said at the beginning.

This module teaches students to build interpretations that remain traceable to the evidence. They will learn how to distinguish observation from inference, identify when an interpretation has moved beyond what the cards can reasonably support, test competing explanations, and recognize confirmation bias and moving goalposts when new information appears. The goal is not to eliminate narrative from tarot. The goal is to make sure the narrative earns its place.
