Forensic Tarot Module 4: The Defense

You can put together a perfectly convincing tarot interpretation and still have absolutely no evidence to support half of what you just said.  That's where things get interesting.

In the fourth and final module of Forensic Tarot, we're going to examine what happens when your interpretation is challenged.  You've learned to observe the cards, distinguish evidence from assumption, and construct an argument from the imagery.  Now you have to defend that argument.  Can you trace your conclusions back to what was actually present in the cards?  Can you explain why you reached a particular interpretation without relying on traditional keywords, information you learned afterward, or a convenient new explanation that wasn't part of your original reasoning?

This module examines the difference between a defensible interpretation and one that merely sounds plausible.  Through two substantial lectures, you'll learn to identify precisely what an interpretation claims, examine the assumptions holding it together, and recognize when a reader has gone beyond the available evidence.  You'll also confront one of the more difficult parts of analytical work: accepting that portions of an interpretation may be well supported while its overall conclusion can't be defended.

The final exercise places you in the position of reviewing another reader's completed interpretation.  You'll receive the original cards used, recorded observations, and final claim, then conduct your own examination of the reasoning.  Your task isn't to improve the reading or produce a more appealing alternative.  You're going to determine whether the original conclusion survives scrutiny and document exactly how you reached that decision.

This is also the final assessment for the complete Forensic Tarot course.  Students who have completed all four modules may submit their assessment for evaluation toward a Certificate of Completion.  Certification requires a passing assessment and isn't awarded automatically upon purchase.
